- 30 ml London dry gin
- 30 ml Campari
- 30 ml Sweet red vermouth
- 1 strip Orange peel
- Large ice cube × 1
Method
-
Combine in a Mixing Glass
Add gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth to a mixing glass or rocks glass filled with ice. The classic "three equal parts" ratio is sacred — this is how the cocktail was invented in Florence in 1919.
-
Stir (Don't Shake)
Stir with a long bar spoon for 20-25 seconds. The ice should chill and slightly dilute, but you don't want cloudiness from shaking.
-
Strain & Ice
Strain into a rocks glass over one large, fresh ice cube. A single large cube melts slowly, keeping the drink cold without over-diluting.
-
Cut a thick strip
Cut a thick strip of orange peel, avoiding the pith — the bitter white layer under the skin.
-
Hold
Hold it over the glass and squeeze to release the oils across the surface.
-
Rub the peel around
Rub the peel around the rim, then drop it in as garnish.
